About this event

This is a recruitment of volunteers to ensure the success of the "2026 Kumejima Giant Tug-of-War", a traditional event held once every three years. Targeting those confident in their physical strength, participants will work alongside staff of the Industry Promotion Division of the Kumejima Town Office to handle event preparations and serve as tug-of-war pullers on the day. With the spirit of "Become friends with the islanders!" unique to the Shima-maru Volunteer Tour, let's enliven the island's traditional event together. The tour also plans sightseeing experience programs such as a tour of the awamori factory of "Yoneshima Shuzo" made on Kumejima and an island inspection tour. The volunteer work centers on activities utilizing physical strength, such as transporting and preparing equipment used in the giant tug-of-war, participating in the actual tug-of-war performance, and cleaning up. This traditional event, which has a history of holding tug-of-war to pray for rain in ancient times, is a valuable opportunity to connect to modern times. Why not support Kumejima Town through volunteer activities as it focuses on creating related populations in response to the challenge of island depopulation? Recommended for those interested in physical work and interacting with islanders, and those who want to experience Kumejima's traditional culture.
