Junguya (Harvest Moon Festival)

The traditional annual event "Junguya (Jugoya)" held every year in Taketomi Town, Okinawa Prefecture, is a celebration of the fifteenth night of the eighth lunar month held on August 15 of the lunar calendar. This day is considered an important day to pray for fertility while admiring the full moon. On Taketomi Island, various traditional events are held in each community during this period, and Junguya is also carefully passed down by local residents as one of them. It is an opportunity to come in contact with customs handed down from ancient times and experience island culture firsthand.
