About this event
The Kitsugan-sai Festival of Kohama Island is a traditional event held to express gratitude for the current year's harvest and to pray for bountiful crops in the coming year. At Kafune Utaki, dedicatory performing arts are presented to give thanks for the past year's good harvest, good health, and the fulfillment of prayers, releasing the year's vows while praying for next year's bountiful crops and sound health. Designated as a National Important Intangible Folk Cultural Property, this festival is conducted as a vital sacred ritual for the island. During the festival period, many restaurants and tourist facilities on the island are closed, so checking in advance and showing consideration for manners are requested when visiting to observe.
