Nakano Momijiyama Autumn Leaves Peak Season
Japanese name:中野もみじ山 紅葉見ごろ
📅 Sat, Oct 24, 2026 - Sun, Nov 8, 2026
About this event
Nakano Momijiyama, located in Kuroishi City, Aomori Prefecture, is known as one of the prefecture's top autumn foliage viewing spots. Over 100 varieties of maple seedlings transplanted from Kyoto by the feudal lord of Hirosaki in 1803 have grown, and today approximately 130 maple trees over 100 years old can be seen. Inside the forest are Nakano Shrine and the ruins of Fudodate Castle, where one of the Tsugaru San Fudoson (Three Fudo Deities) is enshrined. Usually, the leaves begin to change color around mid-October and reach peak viewing from late October to early November. The autumn foliage is reflected in the waterfalls and mountain streams, creating a blazing, vibrant world with breathtaking views that captivate visitors. In 2026, from October 24 (Sat) to November 8 (Sun), temporary tourist information centers, illumination, and food stalls are scheduled. Illumination takes place from 16:30 to 21:00, allowing visitors to enjoy the fantastical autumn leaves at night. Admission is free.
