About this event
'KUSAMA FOREVER – An Evening of Films, Dialogue, and Lectures,' held at the Towada Art Center in Aomori Prefecture, is part of a program honoring the world-renowned avant-garde artist Yayoi Kusama. This event sheds light on Kusama's creative career, providing an opportunity to deeply connect with her artistic world. Specifically, in addition to screening the documentary film 'Kusama: Infinity' (2018), which captures Kusama from her early struggles to her breakthrough after moving to the US, a lecture featuring guest art critic Fumio Nanjo, who has curated Kusama's works for many years, will be held. In this lecture, deep insights into Kusama's art and the source of her creations are expected to be shared. Furthermore, as another related event, a screening of the documentary film 'Near Equal Yayoi Kusama: I Adore Myself' (2008), which closely follows the production scene of the monochrome series 'Love Forever,' and a dialogue event moderated by museum director Sachiko Shikata will also be conducted. Through these film screenings, dialogues, and lectures, visitors can experience from multiple angles the messages of 'love' and 'peace' embedded in Kusama's works, as well as her unwavering creative will. The Towada Art Center is a special place for the region, housing the permanent outdoor sculpture 'Love Forever, Singing in Towada' (2010), created by Kusama dedicated to Towada. This program should serve as a precious opportunity to once again deeply understand the connection between Kusama's art and Towada.
