About this event
Carrying on a history of more than 300 years, the Kawauchi Hachiman Shrine Annual Festival is held at Kawauchi Hachiman Shrine in Kawauchi-machi, Mutsu City, Aomori Prefecture. Designated as a Prefectural Intangible Folk Cultural Property, records show that in the first year of Shotoku (1711), festival floats accompanied the shrine's mikoshi portable shrine on its procession. The biggest highlight of the festival is the sight of the prefecture's largest floats and portable shrines parading through the town in traditional ancient ritual style. Held every year on the Saturday and Sunday before Respect for the Aged Day, it captivates many people as a deeply rooted traditional festival.
