Mount Osore Autumn Pilgrimage

About this event

Mount Osore is a sacred sanctuary of Jizo belief surrounded by the outer rim of eight peaks resembling lotus petals, featuring a unique spiritual landscape reminiscent of hell and paradise. The Autumn Pilgrimage is traditionally held over the three-day holiday ending on Sports Day, featuring events of gratitude and repayment of kindness to the principal image, Enmei Jizo Bosatsu, and ancestors. During this period, Buddhist memorial services such as Tendoku Daihannya Kitokai continue, and Itako spirit-channeling (kuchiyose) is also held as usual each year. It provides an opportunity to feel the solemn autumn atmosphere of Mount Osore firsthand and memorialize ancestors.
