About this event
Located in Mutsu City, Aomori Prefecture, Kawauchi River Gorge is known as a famous spot for autumn foliage. From the 3.2-kilometer walking trail maintained along the Kawauchi River, visitors can enjoy both the mountain stream and the autumn leaves at the same time. Along the trail, you can also see mysterious holes called 'ouketsu' (potholes), created when pebbles swirling in the river's flow eroded the rock surface. Legends say a dragon god dwells in this gorge, and the view of 'Otaki' (Great Waterfall) seen especially from Sekirei Bridge is a breathtaking sight that yamabushi (mountain ascetics) historically used as a place of ascetic training. The best viewing period in typical years is from mid-October to late October.
