Tsugaru City Umaichi Festival

About this event

A traditional horse-themed festival event that began in 1975 (Showa 50). Held over three days, it is enlivened by diverse events, including the Uehara Gento Cup. On the final day of the festival, a powerful 'Horse Nebuta Parade' is held. At night, the 'Nitta Fire Festival' is conducted to memorialize and send off the spirits of deceased horses that dedicated their lives to developing new rice fields, offering a mystical sight as the heroic horse nebuta are set ablaze.
