Protecting Shinkansen Infrastructure! Large Maintenance Machinery Tour & Experience Event in Okutsugaru Maintenance Base

About this event

This is a tour and hands-on experience event for large maintenance machinery at the Okutsugaru Maintenance Base, organized by JR Hokkaido to commemorate the 10th anniversary of the Hokkaido Shinkansen opening. A total of 9 large maintenance machines for standard gauge and narrow gauge will gather together, allowing visitors to view them in a special area normally off-limits to the public. Visitors can actually board the inspection car (R600), switch multiple tie tamper, rail grinding car, electric power maintenance vehicle (TTB car), and rail cart to watch work scenes from inside the vehicles. In particular, on the standard-gauge rotary snowplow motor car, participants can experience operating the wings and flangers. Participants will receive event-exclusive original can badges and JR Hokkaido original goods as gifts. This event is a valuable opportunity to come into contact with important machinery supporting the safe operation of the Shinkansen.
