About this event

From Saturday, September 12 to Sunday, September 13, 2026, the environmental sports event "Shirakami Sanchi SEA TO SUMMIT 2026" will be held in the Shirakami Sanchi World Natural Heritage area, spanning Fukaura Town in Aomori Prefecture and Happo Town in Akita Prefecture. In this event, participants reflect on the cycles of nature through human-powered travel combining kayaking (sea), cycling (village), and mountain climbing (mountain). The course stretches from Happo Town, Akita to Fukaura Town, Aomori, challenging a total distance of approximately 34 km and an elevation gain of 940 m. In the kayak stage, participants take in panoramic views of the Sea of Japan; in the bike stage, they ride along the Omagoshi Highway by the Sea of Japan; and in the hike stage, they pass through primeval beech forests aiming for the summit of Mt. Kuzureyama at an elevation of 940 m. Simultaneously, the "Shirakami Sanchi Festival" will be held at the main venue, Aone Shirakami Juniko, featuring a market with around 50 stalls offering Shirakami gourmet foods, regional specialties, local sweets, gibier, and more. Many food trucks are also scheduled to appear. In addition, stage events by special guests including Shinpei Kurihara and Jonagold, as well as an environmental symposium by Montbell representative Isamu Tatsuno and Shigeki Kudo of the Shirakami Matagi Hut, are planned. Interactive activities include kayak and yacht experiences in a giant pool, trampolines, and hunting experiences. Participation in SEA TO SUMMIT requires advance registration, with options for the Single category, Team category, and Para Challenge category.
