About this event
This provides information on the Canoe Sprint events of the 80th National Sports Games 'Ao no Kirameki Aomori Kokospo', which will be held in Aomori Prefecture in 2026 (Reiwa 8). Canoe sprint is a thrilling, speed-focused event where competitors race on straight courses set in calm rivers or lakes to see who can reach the finish line fastest. There are two types of boats: kayaks, which are propelled by alternately paddling with a double-bladed paddle, and canoes (Canadian), which are steered and propelled using a single-bladed paddle on one side. In the National Sports Games, races will be held over distances of 500 meters and 200 meters. The venue is the Tsugaru Shirakami Lake Special Canoe Racing Course in Nishimeya Village, Aomori Prefecture. This tournament is part of Japan's largest sports festival, held in Aomori Prefecture for the first time in 49 years since 1977 (Showa 52), and also serves as an opportunity to showcase the charms of Nishimeya Village.
