Miyakoshi Family Residence and Seikouen Garden Autumn Public Opening

Japanese name:宮越家・静川園 秋公開

📅 Fri, Sep 25, 2026 - Sun, Nov 1, 2026

📍 Nakadomari, Aomori

About this event

The historic Miyakoshi family residence nestled in Nakadomari Town, Aomori Prefecture, and its nationally designated Place of Scenic Beauty Japanese garden, 'Seikouen,' will be open to the public for a limited time. In the detached villa 'Shimuan,' which exudes Taisho Romanticism, precious original works by Japan's first stained glass artist, Sanzo Ogawa, remain and continue to radiate beautiful light. For the garden 'Seikouen,' this will be the first public opening since its designation. Furthermore, the original fusuma sliding door painting 'Spring Scenery of Flowers and Birds,' which caused a sensation among enthusiasts last year, will only be on display until this autumn opening due to a special exhibition and repair work at the Tokyo Metropolitan Art Museum. Guided tours in the Tsugaru dialect are also one of the hidden charms. In a special space normally closed to the public, you can experience a one-of-a-kind moment touching upon history, art, and the local dialect. The opening is strictly by advance reservation only, and access is possible only via a dedicated shuttle bus.
