About this event
The Annual Grand Festival of Hachiman Shrine held in Yokohama Town, Aomori Prefecture, is a traditional festival deeply rooted in the community as an autumn festival. Starting with the eve festival on Monday, September 14, the annual grand festival is conducted on Tuesday, September 15. On Wednesday, September 16, the Shinko-sai is held, and portable shrines parade through the town. On Thursday, September 17, the Maritime Safety Prayer Festival is held to pray for local safety and a bountiful catch. Then on Friday, September 18, the Okayeri of the Shinko-sai takes place, bringing the festival to its climax. On the same day, simultaneous performances by kagura troupes are presented in Omachi, where visitors can enjoy the kagura of each neighborhood association. There are many highlights, including Shinto rituals conducted in a solemn atmosphere and kagura performances brought to life by the unified community.
