About this event
Gonohe Festival is a traditional festival modeled after Kyoto's Gion Festival, centered around the three shrines of Hachiman-gu, Inari Shrine, and Shinmei-gu. The festival's greatest highlight is the gorgeous floats crafted based on myths and legends. Decorated with motifs such as rocks, autumn leaves, and waves, their powerful ascent up steep hills is truly breathtaking. In addition, Gonohe Town's unique ondo songs and festival music liven up the celebration. In particular, the chanting calls reminiscent of Tairyo-bushi used when pulling the floats are a distinctive feature not seen in neighboring festivals. During the festival period, various concurrent events are held, including nighttime float showcases, nagashi-odori group dances, and the Oshu Yosakoi Festival, captivating visitors.
