About this event
The Morioka Handi-Works Square Workshop Festival is a special event commemorating the 40th anniversary of its opening, held on Saturday, October 3 and Sunday, October 4, 2026. At the venue, numerous special hands-on workshops will be held where you can enjoy crafting together with artisans, alongside the 'Morioka Handi-Works Square True-or-False Quiz' with chances to win luxurious prizes. In the metal carving workshop, you can make keychains, bookmarks, and bangles, while clock making can be enjoyed in the woodworking workshop. The Nambu Tekki Cooperative will hold original paper strip crafting for wind chimes, and Woolly Morioka will host wool crafting and original keychain making. The special demonstrations to see artisans' skills up close are also a must-see, featuring demonstrations of making hollow handles (fukurozuru) for Nambu iron kettles, pattern embossing, and hand-forged metal fittings for Iwayado chest drawers (Iwayado Tansu). At the annual 'Outlet Market' (Wake-ari Ichi), carefully crafted 'imperfect' goods by artisans will be sold at special prices. In addition, delicious gourmet foods will gather at the 'Tarafuku Food Stall Market', and local products and workshop items are prepared as prizes for the famous ring toss tournament. Nostalgic puffed rice snack (don-gashi) making performances and 75-cm-diameter jumbo rice cracker performances will also take place, where you can enjoy freshly made treats served for free. Furthermore, there are plenty of delightful campaigns, such as gifts for following on Instagram and visiting, and small commemorative gifts for questionnaire respondents.
