2026 Tono Cultural Forum: Tono's Folk Performing Art Shishi Odori - Dynamic Soul

About this event

This is the Tono Cultural Forum held under the theme of "Shishi Odori" (deer dance), a local traditional performing art passed down in Tono. In this forum, participants will deepen their understanding of local performing arts while combining broad professional perspectives with those of local successors, and consider the significance and ideal form of cultural transmission for future local communities. The keynote lecture will explore the spirit of repose of souls and memorial services embodied in Shishi Odori, and live demonstrations will showcase the powerful dances handed down in the region. Through learning and the voices of tradition bearers, it will be an opportunity to reexamine its charm and value and reflect on the importance of passing it on to the future. Admission is free, but advance registration is required.
