Held since Showa 57 (1982), the "Senmaya Night Market" is a summer tradition held by turning the Shinmachi and Honcho shopping streets in Senmaya-cho, Ichinoseki City, into a pedestrian zone. Bare light bulbs are lit along the slender shopping street stretching about 500 meters, enveloping it in a magical atmosphere. Various elaborate events are held at this night market to entertain visitors. Lined with numerous stalls, this lively and vibrant night market has become one of the summer pleasures for local residents.
