About this event

Tatsuaki Tamura, the first feudal lord of the Ichinoseki Domain, was from a branch family of the tozama daimyo Date clan, yet he served in the key post of Shogunate Master of Ceremonies (Soshaban) for many years and was also known for his involvement in the seppuku of Asano Takumi no Kami, famous in the story of Chushingura. In the Ichinoseki Domain, he was revered as an ideal lord who envisioned building the domain on scholarship. Tatsuaki was also renowned as a waka poet; he interacted with court nobles through waka poetry, and these personal connections supported his career advancement. This exhibition introduces human exchanges surrounding waka poetry in the Genroku era, as well as Kyoto's aristocratic elegance seen within samurai society.
