About this event
A 'Rice Harvesting Experience' and new residents exchange gathering will be held in Shizukuishi Town, Iwate Prefecture, marking the finale of rice cultivation. In this event held at the rice fields of Shizukuishi Yahachiya, participants can experience traditional rice farming processes using classic tools—not only harvesting rice using sickles, but also threshing, winnowing chaff using a tomi (traditional winnowing fan), and hulling using a mortar and tennis ball. Lecturer Toshichi Takizawa will also give a talk on organic farming methods and farming in harmony with nature. By experiencing tasks usually done by machinery through traditional methods, you can enjoyably learn how rice turns into grain and reaches our dining tables. Those who could not participate in the rice planting are also welcome, making it a great opportunity to enjoy farm life surrounded by nature and mingle with local people. Open to new residents, those considering relocation, and residents of Shizukuishi Town, with an organic rice onigiri lunch included.
