📅 Sun, Sep 27, 2026

📍 Iwaizumi, Iwate

About this event

This is a national competition for the folk song 'Nambu Ushioi-uta' (Nambu Cattle-Driving Song), said to have originated in Iwaizumi Town. Passed down by cattle drivers during the feudal domain era while transporting salt and marine products from the coast to Morioka, the castle town of the Nambu domain, this folk song is now widely sung and loved across the country. Held for the purpose of popularizing and improving Nambu Ushioi-uta and promoting tourism, folk song enthusiasts gather from all over Japan to showcase their singing voices. The competition is divided into the General Division (preliminaries and finals), the Over 70 Division, and the Youth Division, with heated performances unfolding in each division. In addition to prizes for winners of the General, Over 70, and Youth Divisions, the Overall Division also awards the Furusato President's Prize and the Judges' Special Prize. The venue is the Main Hall of the Iwaizumi Town Community Center.
