13th New Chitose Airport International Animation Festival

The 13th New Chitose Airport International Animation Festival, a top-level domestic festival dedicated to animation held at the New Chitose Airport Terminal Building—the gateway connecting Hokkaido to the world—will be held for 5 days from November 20 (Fri) to November 24 (Tue), 2026. This film festival aims to intensively introduce cutting-edge and diverse expressions from the animation scene within Japan, while transforming New Chitose Airport into an international cultural exchange hub open to creators and visitors alike. This year, the NEW CHITOSE Digital Signage Division is newly established, reorganizing the previous NEW CHITOSE 30 Seconds Division that had been broadcast on digital signage throughout the airport. In addition, a collaborative program with the Sapporo International Art Festival 2027 (SIAF2027), which will be held from January 16 (Sat) to February 21 (Sun), 2027, will be carried out; selected works from the Digital Signage Division are scheduled to be screened as part of outdoor projections during SIAF2027. Furthermore, student animation works inspired by the theme of SIAF2027 will also be produced. Held in Chitose City as it marks 100 years of airport opening, this festival will be an opportunity to discover new appeals of animation.
