Kesennuma 'Umi no Ichi' Pacific Saury Festival
Japanese name:気仙沼「海の市」サンマまつり
📅 Sat, Oct 10, 2026
About this event
At Kesennuma 'Umi no Ichi', the 'Kesennuma Umi no Ichi Sanma Matsuri' will be held, where you can savor autumn's seasonal delicacy, Pacific saury. On the day, 1,000 charcoal-grilled Pacific sauries will be served free of charge. In addition, at the 'Sanma Catching' event, which can be joined for 1,000 yen per turn, you can take home all the sauries you can grab with both hands. This is a chance to experience seasonal Pacific saury through an event unique to a port town. Furthermore, there are plenty of activities for adults and children alike, such as a corner selling boxed fresh sauries straight from the catch and a rock-paper-scissors tournament featuring Kesennuma's popular character 'Hoya Boya'. Please check the latest information as event details are subject to change depending on Pacific saury landing conditions.
