About this event

Information on the Tagajo Course for the Miyagi Olle Fair 2026, part of the popular 'Olle' trekking courses originating from Jeju Island, South Korea. The approximately 9 km route starts in front of JR Senseki Line Tagajo Station and visits places celebrated in classical poetry (utamakura), including Noda no Tamagawa, which has been featured in many poems. Along the course, Manyo plants such as azaleas and red spider lilies bloom in all four seasons, and walkers proceed along small paths that are rarely used today. The course finishes by passing through the Tagajo South Gate, which was reconstructed in its majestic form to commemorate the 1,300th anniversary of Tagajo's founding. Historical and cultural highlights are dotted along the route, including Noda no Tamagawa, Omowaku no Hashi Bridge, Tenmangu Shrine, the Tagajo Abandoned Temple Site, the Tohoku History Museum, Ukishima Shrine, the Tagajo Government Office Site, the Tagajo Monument, and the reconstructed Tagajo South Gate. At the Tagajo Site Guidance Facility, visitors can experience videos and excavated artifacts of the ancient city of Tagajo. Audio guides are also provided, featuring content created with the cooperation of local volunteer tourist guides and local elementary school students to help visitors experience the area's charms more deeply.
