About this event
The "18th Semine Airfield Festival," held in Kurihara City, Miyagi Prefecture, is an event commemorating the 50th anniversary of the opening of Semine Airfield. This event has been held with hopes for recovery from the 2008 Iwate-Miyagi Nairiku Earthquake, aiming to revitalize the local community, support children's dreams of soaring in the skies, and provide opportunities to feel close to aircraft. Marking the significant milestone of its 50th anniversary, the festival expresses gratitude for the airfield's role in protecting human lives from the skies through disaster prevention and rescue operations, as well as for the long-standing support and protection received from the local community. On the day, visitors can view aircraft exhibitions and demonstration flights up close, and enjoy dance and singing stages, sales of local specialties and anniversary commemorative goods, and aircraft-related exhibits (microlights, drones, radio-controlled models, etc.). An aircraft spot sale (for non-flying display/parts use only) will also be held. The event may be canceled depending on weather conditions.
