Ushu Kaido History Festival 2026: Ushu Kaido Town Walk

Events conveying the region's history and culture will be held simultaneously at cultural properties and cultural facilities along the Ushu Kaido, a major highway during the Edo period. This is an opportunity to rediscover the charm of Akita while touring the Ushu Kaido. In particular, during the 'Ushu Kaido Town Walk,' two courses guided by Akita City tourist guides are available, allowing participants to experience the local history and culture and feel a close connection to the Ushu Kaido. Course 1, 'Exploring Commerce,' gathers at the Akita City Machinaka Tourist Information Center and visits the Former Kaneko Family Residence / Folklore and Performing Arts Heritage Center, the Red Brick Folk Museum, a sake brewery, and the Former Matsukura Family Residence. Course 2, 'Exploring Food Culture,' gathers at the Former Matsukura Family Residence and visits a sake brewery, Chamachi-dori, Torimachi Takasagodo, and the Akita City Machinaka Tourist Information Center. A commemorative gift will be presented to participants. Children of elementary school age and younger must be accompanied by a guardian. Participation is free.
