61st Hakodate Yunokawa Onsen Fireworks Display

About this event

This is a regular fireworks festival that marks the end of Hakodate's short summer. The fireworks that gorgeously color the late summer night sky against the backdrop of the Tsugaru Strait are breathtaking. The launch site is downstream of the Matsukura River, and viewing is available from the Tropical Botanical Garden parking lot and the sandy beach behind it. Highlights include the collaboration between the fireworks and the fishing lights (isaribi) of squid fishing boats offshore, as well as squid-shaped fireworks unique to Hakodate. On the morning of the day, the "Kento-shiki" ceremony will also be held to dedicate hot spring source water and other offerings to Yukura Shrine. The use of public transportation is recommended, and it is about a 10-minute walk from the "Yunokawa Onsen" tram stop. Traffic restrictions will also be in place, so arriving with plenty of time to spare is recommended.
