Yashima Hassaku Festival

The grandest festival in the Yashima region, held at Yashima Shinmei Shrine with approximately 400 years of history, praying for a bountiful harvest to the enshrined deity Ukanomitama, who governs rice. On the eve (Yoimiya) on Saturday, September 12, the sounds of kagura taiko drums resonate, featuring the departure of kagura processions, Yashima Ondo dance, and the departure of mikoshi (portable shrines). Additionally, fireworks will be launched at 21:00, followed by a kagura taiko joint performance at 21:30. Yoimiya begins at 18:00, with Yashima Station front serving as one of the festival stages with kagura departures. On the main festival day, Sunday, September 13, five floats parade through the town alongside the mikoshi. Stalls will also be set up in front of Yashima Station during the festival period, bustling with activity. Floats departing from the Okawara area are scheduled to pass by Yashima Station between 14:00 and 15:00. Yuri Kogen Railway will operate special trains in conjunction with Yoimiya, making it convenient for visitors returning home after enjoying the festival.
