About this event
Held in Semboku City, Akita Prefecture, the "39th Obonai Bushi National Competition" is a nationwide contest for "Obonai Bushi", a representative folk song of Akita. Obonai Bushi is known as an original folk song unaffected by the influence of other regions, possessing high historical value as it has been sung since the mid-Edo period. Aiming to pass down and promote this traditional folk song, singers gather from all over Japan for this tournament. The venue is Semboku City Civic Hall, accessible from JR Tazawako Station. Admission is free, but participation requires an entry fee of 3,000 yen for the general division. Last year's attendance was 400 people. Why not take this opportunity to experience firsthand the profound charm of Obonai Bushi and the wonders of traditional Japanese music?
