About this event
Organized in Higashinaruse Village, Akita Prefecture, the "Naruse Dam Festival 2026" is a summer celebration aimed at revitalizing the local community and promoting awareness of the Naruse Dam. It began with the goal of reviving the "Akataki Festival," which once enlivened the region, and is cherished as a friendly gathering place full of local connections and smiles. Starting with a powerful opening performance of "Sennin Taiko" drumming, a wide variety of hands-on programs are prepared for children and adults to enjoy, such as mochi throwing and catching char (iwana) with bare hands. In addition, a special concurrent tour offers a close-up look at the construction site of the Naruse Dam—one of the largest dams in the Tohoku region scheduled for completion in the summer of 2027—providing a rare opportunity to experience the gigantic dam under construction and the heavy machinery. The IT company Higashinaruse Tech Solutions Co., Ltd. (Naru-Tech) serves as the secretariat, planning and managing the event while preparing in cooperation with the local community. With content further powered up from last year, such as hot air balloon tethering experiences, a karaoke contest, and collaborative projects with universities, the event aims to create vibrant excitement for the entire region. It is expected to draw many visitors as a place of multigenerational exchange, starting with the villagers.
