About this event
An exhibition planned to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the birth of Shigeru Mizuki (1922–2015), creator of numerous yokai masterpieces including his signature work "GeGeGe no Kitaro," who popularized the term "yokai" among the general public. This exhibition is the first attempt focusing specifically on the creative process behind how Shigeru Mizuki's yokai artwork was made. Centered around approximately 100 original yokai drawings by Mizuki, the venue introduces reference books and related materials used by the author, as well as the lineage and writings of yokai cultural figures. Loved across generations from children to adults, the exhibition allows visitors to thoroughly enjoy Mizuki's enchanting yokai world that continues to fascinate fans today. The Yamagata venue also features an AR corner where yokai such as Gashadokuro appear, along with special promotions like limited-edition stickers given to visitors on a first-come, first-served basis on specific days during the exhibition period.
