Japanese name:関川しな織まつり

About this event

The "Sekigawa Shinaori Festival" will be held, carrying on the ancient "shinaori" (linden bark cloth weaving) technique handed down in the Sekigawa area of Tsuruoka City. Made from the Japanese linden tree (shina no ki), thread is spun entirely by hand, and it takes a full year to weave the traditional cloth "shinaori"—an event where you can fully experience the charm of this craft. At the festival, there will be demonstrations by the Shinaori Princess (Shinaori-hime) and displays and sales of shinaori products. In addition, hands-on corners where visitors can actually try shinaori weaving, stage entertainment, and sales of agricultural products from the Sekigawa area are planned. Through these special experiences found only here, you can feel the warmth of "shinaori," carefully preserved in the region, and the passion of its artisans.
