Sarugakudai Buckwheat Fields
Japanese name:猿楽台地のそば畑
📅 Fri, Aug 21, 2026 - Mon, Sep 7, 2026
About this event
At the buckwheat fields on Sarugakudai plateau in Shimogo Town, Fukushima Prefecture, a vast expanse of blooming buckwheat flowers reaches its peak from late August to early September. Spanning approximately 23 hectares on a plateau at an altitude of around 600 meters, the buckwheat fields are located in a quiet area surrounded by mountains, featuring a wide open sky. In full bloom, the profusely blooming buckwheat flowers look as if a white carpet has been laid out, earning it the reputation of the 'best buckwheat field in Japan,' and it won the Minister of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries Award in the production category at the 7th Beautiful Japanese Villages Contest. During the day, the contrast between green and white is beautiful, and at dusk, the sky turns orange, creating a magical landscape with the contrast of light and shadow. At night, due to few artificial structures, a 360-degree panoramic starry sky unfolds, making it a popular spot for magical photo shoots. Since the buckwheat fields are private property, please be careful not to enter the fields or get close to the crops. When taking photos, please pay close attention to vehicular traffic and consider safety. Tasting the local specialty buckwheat noodles after gazing out over the boundless buckwheat fields will also be an exceptional experience.
