Furumachi Festival

About this event

"Furumachi Festival," a festival of Hirose Shrine that began in 1681 and continues to be held while passing down traditional solemn customs, will take place from Saturday, September 12, to Sunday, September 13, 2026. In particular, the "Omikoshi Togyosai" (portable shrine procession), in which parishioner attendants dressed in ceremonial kamishimo attire push and parade the portable shrine, has been designated as an Important Intangible Folk Cultural Property of Minamiaizu Town, making it a valuable ritual where one can feel history and tradition. The sight of the portable shrine being paraded through the town creates a deeply atmospheric scene, as if stepping back in time to the Edo period. Through this traditional festival, you can experience the history and culture of Minamiaizu Town firsthand.
