1st Aizu Ultra Walk

About this event

Held for the first time in the Aizu region of Fukushima Prefecture, the '1st Aizu Ultra Walk' is an ultra-walking event featuring 100 km and 70 km categories. In particular, the 100 km category has a 28-hour time limit, making it a rigorous challenge of walking overnight through Aizu in mid-October. The course is navigated not only by guide signs but also by checking paper maps, cue sheets, Google Maps, etc., with route finding at night being one of the difficulties. Organized by an executive committee consisting of a local newspaper company, six municipalities (Aizuwakamatsu City, Kitakata City, Aizumisato Town, Aizubange Town, Bandai Town, and Yugawa Village), and the Fukushima Walking Association, it is fully launched as a community-driven initiative. It is also positioned as a regional revitalization project to showcase Aizu's rich nature, scenery, and local specialties, attracting visitors from outside the prefecture, with high expectations for contributing to the region from the very first event. As it may become cold from night to early morning, adequate protection against the cold is essential.
