About this event
The Shiogama Shrine Annual Grand Festival, held in Ono Town, Fukushima Prefecture, is a large-scale festival within the Tamura district aimed at promoting community exchange and passing down traditions. Centered around each town's youth association (Wakaren), portable shrines (mikoshi) are carried through the town. A series of rituals and events such as the Yoimiya-sai (eve festival), the Reitaisai (annual grand festival), Mikoshi Togyo (shrine procession), and Mikoshi Kanyo (return procession) take place, and the sight of the mikoshi parading through town from the shrine to the temporary shelter (Okarisha) is a particular highlight. A festival square and children's mikoshi are also held, uniting local residents and visitors to enliven the festival. The Okura Lion Dance is also dedicated, offering an opportunity to experience traditional performing arts.
