About this event
Held in Okuma Town, Fukushima Prefecture, 'Autumn Sakashita Dam Walking' is an event where participants can fully enjoy the nature around Sakashita Dam. Sakashita Dam, an artificial dam reservoir with a total storage capacity of 2,840,000 tons, has a trailhead for Mt. Higakushi further inside (currently off-limits), allowing visitors to experience the rich nature of Ogawara. Along the well-maintained walking trails around the dam, seasonal flowers and plants are beautiful, and in autumn, visitors were able to enjoy imoni (taro soup) parties surrounded by trees with stunning autumn foliage. Although entering inside the dam is not permitted due to the effects of the disaster, this walking event provides an opportunity to rediscover the charm of local nature with spring cherry blossoms and autumn leaves. Through this walk, participants can feel the beautiful scenery of Okuma Town and the town's efforts toward reconstruction.
