About this event

As the rice ears in the paddies ripen into golden color and harvest season arrives, a traditional rice harvesting experience will be held in the Ono district of Tsuchiura City. In this event, participants can actually enter the rice paddy and experience the work of harvesting rice. The event will proceed in light rain and be canceled in stormy weather, running from 10:30 a.m. to around noon. Registration begins at 10:00 a.m. at Komachi no Yakata, and lunch is included. The participation fee is 1,000 yen for adults, 400 yen for children (elementary school students), and free for preschoolers. Participants will receive gifts of locally produced glutinous rice (adults only) and a bottled drink. Boots, work gloves, a hat, a towel, drinks, and a change of clothes are required to participate, and participants must choose long-sleeved shirts and long pants that can get dirty. While there are no shower facilities, hand washing with tap water is available. Applications are accepted by phone to Komachi no Yakata starting at 9:00 a.m. on Wednesday, September 2, with a capacity of 70 participants.
