About this event
Held at the Koga City Tenkoku Museum, Japan's first museum dedicated to seal engraving (tenkoku), the "18th Japan Tenkoku Association Officers Exhibition" is an exhibition bringing together seal engraving works by active officers of the Japan Tenkoku Association. Seal engraving is a calligraphic art form in which phrases chosen from the Four Books and Five Classics, classical Chinese poetry, and other literature are carved into soft stone using the ancient seal script (tensho) and appreciated as impressions stamped on paper. Originating in China around 700 years ago, it has long been appreciated in Japan as well. Through the distinctive works of artists leading the contemporary seal engraving world, visitors can thoroughly appreciate the depth and artistic quality of tenkoku. In a museum nestled within Koga's historic townscape, feeling the resonance of stone in a tranquil space, it will be a precious opportunity to come into contact with a traditional art handed down across eternal time.
