A summer tradition of Shimotsuma City, the Shimotsuma Festival will be held on Saturday, August 22, 2026. Taking place across venues including the pedestrian zone on the south shore of Sanuma, the City Library parking lot, Sanpo-no-Eki Sun SUN Sanuma, and the Joyo Bank parking lot, attractive performances by local groups and hands-on participatory events for visitors will be held. At the Night Market, local specialties and gourmet foods will be offered, creating a lively atmosphere. In the pedestrian zone area, mikoshi (portable shrine) processions and festival music (matsuri-bayashi) played from floats (dashi) will enhance the festival mood. In the finale, approximately 3,000 fireworks will be launched from Sanuma Ohashi Bridge, lighting up the night sky of Shimotsuma. The event hours are from 5:00 PM to 9:00 PM; it will proceed in light rain and be postponed to the next day in severe weather. The backup date is Sunday, August 23. The fireworks opening ceremony is scheduled from 17:00, with fireworks launching from 20:00 to 20:30.
