About this event

"Bakuryo" refers to the airing out of items to prevent mold and insect damage. Hitachiota City is once again hosting the "Intensive Airing (Shuchu Bakuryo)," a special exhibition where valuable cultural properties that are normally not on view to the public are aired out and displayed. In Reiwa 8 (2026), Satake-ji Temple—the prayer temple of the Sengoku warlord Satake clan—and Nishikanasa Shrine—known for the Isode Grand Festival held once every 72 years and the Kanasa Dengaku dance—have newly joined the list of venues, bringing the total to 28 exhibition locations across the city. This is an opportunity to view cultural properties up close while listening to explanations by student volunteers. The exhibition venues are wide-ranging, including Onaka Shrine, Higashikanasa Shrine, Kami Power Station, Nakazome Amida-do Hall, Nishikanasa Shrine, Kikuren-ji Temple, Toshiwake Castle Ruins, Saiko-ji Temple, Shoren-ji Temple, Seishu-ji Temple, Former Machiya Substation and Machiya Power Station Site, Jusho-in Temple, Kosen-ji Temple, Nakano Fujiyama Kofun, Hoshi Shrine Kofun, Bontenyama Kofun Cluster, Shakusekiji Temple, Raigo-in Temple, Satake-ji Temple, Kyusho-ji Temple, Baba Hachimangu Shrine, Ota Daiichi High School, cultural properties in Kujira-ga-oka (Surugaya Miyata Bookstore store and main building, former Inada Residence red brick storehouse, Tachikawa Soy Sauce Store shop and main building), and the Local Museum Umezu Hall (General Information). Concurrent events include a stamp rally visiting the exhibition sites and the "Bakuryo PR Squad" campaign, where participants can receive original stickers by posting and sharing on social media.
