About this event
Held annually at Nishinomiya Shrine in Ashikaga City, Tochigi Prefecture, "Ebisu-ko" is a traditional festival bustling with people praying for good fortune and business prosperity. Founded to enshrine a divided spirit of the great deity worshipped at Nishinomiya Shrine in Settsu Province (present-day Hyogo Prefecture), the Ebisu-ko at Nishinomiya Shrine features "Otakara Market" stalls lining both sides of the approach, filled with lively and spirited calls. Visitors pray for prosperity in business and good luck amidst the vibrant atmosphere. In addition, sacred kagura dance is dedicated within the grounds, with the dance of "Ebisu" and "Hyottoko" performed to the sounds of flutes and drums being one of the major highlights. This festival is also known as one of the Ashikaga Seven Lucky Gods and is cherished as a community-rooted cultural event.
