'Beans' have been cultivated around the world since ancient times, supporting people's daily lives and food culture. This year marks 10 years since the United Nations General Assembly designated 2016 as the 'International Year of Pulses.' In addition, October is 'Bean Month,' and October 13 is 'Bean Day.' In recent years, traditional native bean varieties passed down from the past have been decreasing in Japan. This special exhibition introduces the charm, roles, history, and diversity of 'beans'—a familiar presence essential to our diet—and presents exhibits to help visitors rediscover their importance.
