The 62nd Esashi Oiwake National Championship & The 28th Esashi Oiwake Senior / Junior National Championship

About this event

This is a major event to determine the best in Japan for "Esashi Oiwake," which is rooted in and nurtured by Esashi's long history and climate. Hundreds of singers selected from all over Japan gather to compete with their singing voices. Since its first holding in Showa 38 (1963), it has continuously continued as the most historic national competition for folk songs. For three days in autumn, centered at the Esashi Town Cultural Hall, the entire town is enveloped in the passion of Esashi Oiwake. Preliminary rounds are held on September 18 (Fri) and 19 (Sat), and the finals for the 6 districts take place on September 20 (Sun). Admission to the finals requires a fee, but is free for Esashi Town residents. At the competition, attractions are also scheduled such as Esashi Oiwake chorus by all junior high school students in Esashi Town, large chorus by boys and girls, singing by the previous champion, and singing by past champions, providing an opportunity to fully enjoy the charm of Esashi Oiwake.
