Sakai Furusato Festival

Formerly called the Gion Festival and now affectionately known locally as the "Sakai Furusato Festival," the greatest appeal of this festival is the musical competition of festival music (matsuri-bayashi) performed from distinctively decorated festival floats (yatai and dashi). The procession of floats lovingly crafted by local residents and the resonant, valiant festival music enchant visitors. Additionally, a festival plaza for children is set up, making it a safe event for families to participate in. During the festival period, the surroundings of Sakai Station Front Street, Prefectural Road 14 (former National Route 354), and the Sakai Red Brick Warehouse serve as venues, enveloped in a lively atmosphere. On September 5, traffic regulations will be implemented on surrounding roads, so the use of public transportation is recommended. This festival provides a valuable opportunity to experience local traditions and vibrancy firsthand.
