1st Midori City Smoke Signal Relay
Japanese name:第1回みどり市狼煙リレー
📅 Sat, Oct 10, 2026
About this event
The "1st Midori City Smoke Signal Relay" will be held, connecting mountain castles and forts scattered across Midori City, Gunma Prefecture, with real smoke signals. Six locations—from Iwajuku Museum to Tateiwa Fort, Takatsudo Castle, Teburiyama Fort, Kamibai Castle (Fukazawa Castle), and Goranda Castle—will serve as the stages. Smoke signals that once conveyed information to distant places will be raised one after another by local residents, connecting the former Kasakake Town, Omama Town, and Azuma Village with a single stream of smoke. A samurai warrior procession will depart from Iwajuku Museum at 10:00 AM, and the first smoke signal will be ignited at 10:30 AM. You can enjoy a spectacle reminiscent of the Sengoku period as smoke is passed from mountain to mountain. This event is held as a "Gunma Citizens' Day Commemorative Event," and on the day, the first 10 spectators at each smoke signal platform will receive an original commemorative wooden plaque as a gift. It will be a valuable opportunity to tour the mountain castles of Midori City while experiencing the history of the region.
