Introducing works by Utagawa Hiroshige, an ukiyo-e master active during the late Edo period, the "Grand Hiroshige Exhibition: The Fifty-Three Stations of the Tokaido and Setsugekka – The Lyric World" will be held at Hokkaido Asahikawa Museum of Art. Centering on landscape prints including Hiroshige's signature series "The Fifty-Three Stations of the Tokaido" and his late-career masterpiece "One Hundred Famous Views of Edo," this exhibition displays approximately 200 diverse works encompassing rare original brush paintings (nikuhitsu-ga), caricature prints (giga), kabuki actor prints (yakusha-e), and warrior prints (musha-e). These works are presented by likening them to the seasonal "Setsugekka" (Snow, Moon, and Flowers), allowing visitors to fully savor the lyrically rich world depicted by Hiroshige. It is an exhibition where one can experience Hiroshige's art, which poetically expressed not only scenic landscapes but also the diverse facial expressions of people as well as seasonal nature and customs.
