📅 Sun, Sep 6, 2026
About this event
As part of the "Hometown Experience" held at Nanbata Castle Museum in Fujimi City, Saitama Prefecture, "Fresh Indigo Leaf Dyeing (Namabazome)" will be held. In this hands-on workshop, participants harvest indigo leaves nurtured with care in the field and extract their juice to beautifully dye silk fabric. The vivid blue born from natural indigo leaves has been deeply rooted in Japanese culture since ancient times, and through this experience, you can firsthand appreciate traditional dyeing techniques. You can take home your dyed cloth as a one-of-a-kind original creation. The event date is Sunday, September 6, 2026 (Reiwa 8), and will be postponed to the following week on Sunday, September 13 in case of rain. The venue is the Former Kaneko Residence inside Nanbata Castle Park. The target audience is junior high school students to adults, with a capacity of 10 participants (first-come, first-served basis, with priority given to first-time participants). The participation fee is 2,000 yen (including materials), and instruction is provided by the Indigo Dyeing Association. Applications are accepted by phone from Saturday, August 1 to Sunday, August 9 between 9:00 AM and 5:00 PM. Please note that the facility is closed on Mondays.
