About this event
Held in Ogano Town, Saitama Prefecture, the "Sogo Shrine Lion Dance and Takehira Lion Dance" is a festival that deeply conveys local traditional culture. At Sogo Shrine, a lion dance is dedicated during the festival of the shrine, which features a thatched-roof dance pavilion. Meanwhile, at Takehira Suwa Shrine, the "Takehira Lion Dance" is dedicated to pray for bountiful harvests and the warding off of epidemics. On the day of the festival, ceremonies are conducted in the morning, followed in the afternoon by the "Goshinko" procession carrying the sacred object throughout the village. The Takehira Lion Dance preserves one of the older forms handed down in the Chichibu region, and its implements such as lion masks and costumes are carefully preserved. These lion dances represent valuable cultural heritage where local history and faith remain vividly alive.
