About this event
On Thursday, September 3, 2026, the "Memorial Service for Wooden Carved Bears" will be held in Futtsu City, Chiba Prefecture. In light of social issues such as frequent bear sightings and injuries across the country, this initiative aims to reflect on "humans and nature" and "how we interact with objects" through wooden carved bears lying dormant in households. Organized by Kajiya Honten Co., Ltd., a funeral service company, this is a rare undertaking nationwide that expresses gratitude and holds a memorial service for wooden carved bears that have watched over families' daily lives for many years, returning them to the forest as things born from wood. After the memorial service, the wooden bears will be turned into wood chips and returned to the forest. Rather than simple disposal, this proposes a new way of letting go by sending off memorable items with gratitude and returning them to nature. For the memorial service, bringing the item in person to the hall is a requirement rather than sending it by mail, and it is also expected to serve as a regional revitalization event providing an opportunity to visit Futtsu City. The catchphrase is "Dear bear, please return to the forest."
